(When some one asks what instrument you play...)

So, what instrument do you play?
I play the Horn. The French Horn.

Why is the French horn a divine instrument?

Because a man blows in it, but only God knows what comes out of it

falls over the doorstep when trying to enter building

talks to walls, argues with himself

clarinet player:
Too afraid too jump building because of their reed
Works in locomotives
too busy with reed for gun
throws reed into water
thinks reed is god

trombone player:
leaps short buildings in a single bound
is more powerful than a switch engine
is just as fast as a speeding bullet
walks on water if sea is calm
talks with god

flautist:
barely clears a Quonset hut
loses tug-of-war with locomotive
can fire a speeding bullet
swims well
is occasionally addressed by god

oboist:
leaps short buildings with a running start and favorable winds
is almost as powerful as a switch engine
is almost as fast as a speeding bullet
walks on water in an indoor swimming pool
talks to god if special request is approved

bassoonist:
makes marks on the wall when trying to clear short buildings
is run over by a locomotive c
an sometimes handle a gun without inflicting self-injury
dog-paddles
talks to animals

trumpet player:
argues with building when it won't get out of the way
sleeps in locomotive
claims it's too easy to catch bullets in teeth explaining why he really can't
saves water to drink after every triple C
thinks he's god.

horn player:
lifts buildings and walks under them
kicks locomotives off the tracks
catches speeding bullets in teeth and eats them
freezes water with a single glance
is god

LIP TRILLS

When a trill is marked into a piece of music, you must rapidly play the note written and the note directly above it back and forth. There are two kinds of trills: lip trills (no valves used) and valve trills. Of course any trill can be done as a valve trill as a last resort, but it will not be as “authentic” and smooth as a lip trill.

The rule for lip trill vs. valve trill is this: if the trill goes up a whole step, then it is a lip trill—for example, C to D. If it only goes up a half step—say, B to C—then it is a valve trill. Half step trills are done with valves because it is not possible to lip trill a half step.

Learning lip trills can be very difficult and frustrating, since they require a lot of flexibility. At first, your lip may not cooperate when you tell it to move that fast between two notes for four beats. However, by starting slowly and practicing the exercises included in the “skills” part of this book (or suggested exercises in other books) you will slowly increase your flexibility and notice an improvement in your trills. As you practice the exercises, here are some points to keep in mind:

· I mentioned in the section on practicing that we all need to work on “skills” every day. Well, that goes doubly for lip trills. They need to be practiced consistently in order learn them, and keep them at performance level. It is not a skill that can be learned in a day or two, so it is important to continue working on them regularly. Lip trills pop up in solos (all Mozart concertos) and even in orchestral parts—you want to have them ready to go at a moment’s notice to avoid potential embarrassment.

· It is necessary to keep the air stream steady and moving forward at all times when trilling. Don’t let the air stream get stagnant—think of blowing a steady stream of air in front of you while “wiggling” it back in forth. In other words, if you get bogged down just playing each note back and forth, you will not create any momentum and it will be difficult to trill fast.

· Sometimes it helps to say the syllables “O” and “E” as you trill back and forth to help facilitate the trill. The change in the aural cavity that occurs with the vowels O and E will help “wiggle” the air stream back and forth to each note.

So dissappointed

hey...

i'm so dissappointed in all of you.. we are supposed to have sectionals yesterday.. but yet only a handful turned up.. and some people give excuses that they have to be home by 3. but yet! they are still walking around in school with her friends around 5pm!!! i'm totally pissed off! Like i said.. the earlier we get familliar with the parts, more things we can cover! i totally dont know what to say..

i shall end here!!!!!

Okok.. i got nothing better to do.. so here goes..

My french horn section.. hmmm.... what should i say?? they just LOVE to make my blood boil.. what to do?? they arent doing what they suppose to do... LoL..

Raudhah:
MaMa Lemon... the section leader.. i want thank her for assisting me when i was the Section leader.. and now, despite she is the SL, i will teach the section but she's always there when i am unavailable for sectionals..

Raihan:
Rhino..... Asst SL.. been doing nothing definately.. haha.. but.. she has done her part to call up each one of us to remind what to wear, bring and what time to report to band.. hopefully her phone bill won't increase month by month..

Nadhira:
MaMa MaraNda... suprisingly from trombone section who in the end ended up in f horn section. first came, i was "jammed" in the brain.. coz i totally had no experienced in teaching.. haha.. but she's the one who bring the closeness within us and keep bring joys and happiness when i'm in the bad mood.. thanks ya?? =)

Mala:
MaMA YaMALa... still remember that i hate her TOTALLY when we were in sec 1. why?? coz she arent putting the effort.. haha.. anyway.. now i knew her more... find her nice and bubbly girl with alot of things to shout out.. glad that she's very honest with what she likes and hates.. otha words, she the straight forward kind..

okok.. that's for the seniors..now.. for my Juniors. *yeah*

Jovin:
Octupus... People say you will be the next me.. not about the size but a player.. i was unsure.. can u prove me?? haha. anyway.. the blur one in the section.. keep asking what to do.. haha.. but she's very determined to achieve what she wants..

Tiffany:
Tiffy... Dog lover.. haha.. another junior of mine with hearts to fullfill what she have to fullfill.. always there when u need her.. hmmmm. plus she's the emotional type.. LoL.. study hard hor.. be in a good class... not like me.. always play play.. never study..

Clements:
Clementi... The only guy in this section.. dun worry.. i believe in future you will have a guy as your juniors.. ok?? haha.. strive hard.. remember what mr lim have taught us.. ok?.. stop being so tempermental.. and be the man of the section.. dun be influence by us.. the GIRLS.. be more MANLY.. ok?? ahah

Von Vone.. hmmmM.. she's the quiet girl in the section. but now.. she's start to comunicate like the noisy jovin and tiffany and i'm beginning to get used to her.. haha.. anyway.. try your best ok?? you can do it like tiffany and jovin.. if they can do it, you can do it too!!

Yoz french hornies!! Raihan here! Long time ppl neva update the blog so i decided to put up one post ar! National day over already huh? So fast yea? A lil shocked wen jojo cried! Awww octupus dun cry leh, we will alwaes be here for u all! Haha..memories! But i think i got a lil moody after the parade?? During sesional? Haha wad to do, the ehem ehem coming mah! Haha! :P Anyway <3 ya all
Anyway as u guess noe, we are planning to make a section shirt and fidah had come up wif the design. BUT if u guys have ur own design feel free to share wif us oke? Latest by Wednesday ( 18 of August 2004). Orite? Btw the shirt gonna be in black so choose a suitable colour k?
Lastly as u guys probably noe, COMMON TEST have already started. Yea dere's band test also. Understand dat u guess may be feeling stress. But if u organise ur time wisely, i'm sure u are able to make it! Dont forget to study hard oke? You study for urself and not for others! Achieve ur dreams but at the same time dont forget about the band test lah. You can ask us all for help dont be shy, together we help each other and for those who dont want to, cant force ya. Ur choice..ur decision!
Dats all i guess. Study kz? Coz i'm gonna to. I think my class in a critical condition leh. Many of us gonna kena retain [i guess]! DIE DIE!! Hahaha..okok study hard yea? Me oso! Good luck for your common test!
